Description of Practice

My practice has been focused on court-requested custody, divorce and child focused mediation. Initially, I was a court volunteer, facilitating smalls claims + landlord/tenant dispute mediation- I still do these occasionally. My recent certification in Parenting Coordinating is an exciting new addition to my practice. I am licensed through the High Conflict Institute as a "New Ways for Families" mediator. My focus is primarily working with individuals who might be viewed as "high conflict" and have the desire to work through a communication breakdown while working towards resolving a dispute. Finally, I've added co-parenting coaching to my practice. Beginning on January 6, 2018 I will start offering a co-parenting workshop to folks who are dealing with separation/divorce/custody. I'll be utilizing a high conflict workshop as an added feature to the co-parenting workshop.

Experience

My formal experience is outlined in my work and education experience but I think its a good idea to add some personal passion I have for the practice. I would not say that I am a conflict adverse person but I have always been a person who seeks fairness in all aspects of life. I think most of my colleagues agree that some conflict is actually good. My question about conflict is, "is it fair?" This is when I decided to study negotiation and dispute resolution- under the framework of seeking the answer to that question in my research and when I work with parties in mediation.

Approach

After a screening process, I can get a pretty good idea what type of mediation would be more effective for the said dispute; however, my go-to is facilitative mediation because it can provide parties with a structured way of communicating that will enable them to reach an agreement. If the method of communicating works for them, they can take the process with them and use it when communicating in future negotiations.
