Description of Practice

Art Nissenbaum is a trained mediator and parent coordinator with 20 years of experience in all facets of family law including working as a court appointed Guardian ad Litem by the Court representing children in custody cases. His experience adds depth to the understanding of the issues involved in family cases and the benefits of resolving them through the mediation process.

Professional Background

Art received his B.A. from the University of Kansas as a Psychology major and also majored in Human Development and Family Life. He received his JD degree in 1979 from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago,IL and a MA in Public Administration in 1981. Art has been trained in mediation and parent coordinating and was a member of the St. Louis County task force which brought Parent Coordinating to the Courts. He is currently a board member and treasurer for the MO AFCC chapter and a board member of Lawyers for Kids.


Art's approach to mediation is one of facilitating conversation to explore and examine issues which need to be resolved. From this conversation he encourages and promotes a resolution of the issues by helping participants identify the important issues to them, explore options, reduce misunderstanding and if possible come to mutually acceptable agreements.
